What's under that facade? Uni-Base Board Cladding by Unitex.
Friday 20th July 2007

Sometimes a facade is just that – a facade. When using Uni-Base Board® however, you get a whole lot more.

Uni-Base Board is part of the Uni-EIFS™range by Unitex® and is a lightweight, external wall cladding comprising of pre-coated, 50, 75 or 100 mm thick reinforced EPS sheets used in conjunction with Unitex Base Board Render. The system offers externally insulated walls with R-value 2.6 or more, is easy to install, very cost effective and provides a smooth, flat, rendered finish.

Used extensively in a recently completed section of Mornington Peninsula's Martha Cove development, Uni-Base Board shows its strengths. Comprising of over 20 luxury homes of 40-50 squares each, the Seaspray Close section of this massive and unique development sets the standard. And with a number of waterfront homes, private piers and mooring, and direct boat access to Port Phillip Bay, the $1.7 million plus price tags are understandable.

A variety of construction materials such as blockwork, weatherboards, stacked stone and the rendered Uni-Base Board have been used on the facades to give the development a modern, resort look. In this beachside environment, durability of products is paramount so the Uni-Base Board system is perfect. The flat sheets are pre-rendered and reinforced with mesh, stainless steel corner pieces provide strength and clean edges and can handle the difficult conditions. Unitex Base Board Render and Unitex Texture is then applied to result in a flat, weather-proof, attractive facade.

Construction Manager Nino Mimmo from Pearl Hill had used Uni-Base Board before and knew the value of a quality product. "The architect had specified Unitex or similar. We chose Uni-Base Board over any others because we know it's reliable and the back-up service is so useful. We get the rep on-site a lot."  Unitex have been in the market of supplying facade systems for almost 25 years – that's a lot of knowledge and experience.

On this "special project," the R-value was also very important. These homes have been built above the '5 Star' standard requirements so the Uni-Base Board was of even greater benefit. The 75mm polystyrene sheets offer incredible thermal insulation against the cold winds off the water and the summer heat, making these luxury homes even more comfortable. Who would have thought all that was beneath the facade?
