INVISTA, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of nylon and the
manufacturer of ANTRON® carpet fibre, announced today that the U.S.-based Boustead Consulting &
Associates Ltd. has completed global eco-profiles, or cradle-to-gate life cycle analyses, for ANTRON®
carpet fibre. INVISTA engaged Boustead Consulting & Associates Ltd., renowned third-party experts in
environmental life cycle evaluations, to study and analyse environmental impact data for all INVISTA
plants worldwide that produce ANTRON® carpet fibre.
The eco-profiles take into account all environmental inputs and outputs related to a product’s
manufacturing and raw material distribution, including raw material consumption, water use, energy use,
carbon footprint, waste generation, packaging and transportation. The cradle-to-gate, life-cycle-based
global eco-profile delivers a holistic view of a product’s environmental impacts from raw material
extraction to the final product, in contrast to single attribute claims which highlight only selected
environmental attributes.
“The results of this study provide us with a truly comprehensive global analysis of the environmental
footprint of ANTRON® carpet fibre, from the cradle to finished fibre,” said Henning Bloech, manager of
environmental initiatives for INVISTA based in the U.S. “These data will become the benchmark for
managing the key factors that contribute to sustainable carpet fiber production. The global eco-profile
provides us with a thorough, rigorous approach to maintaining our current environmental certifications,
and will also enable our understanding as we continually work to improve manufacturing processes and
develop new product offerings.”
“The Boustead eco-profile is a powerful tool to help manufacturers understand their product’s
environmental impact and find ways for improvement,” said Bernard Yaros, Boustead Consulting &
Associates Ltd. “We applaud INVISTA’s commitment to conduct a life cycle analysis. While the process
provides a comprehensive, scientific assessment to evaluate environmental progress, it requires
considerable time, effort and resources on the manufacturer’s part.”
The results of the eco-profiles played a key role in INVISTA obtaining an Environmentally Preferable
Product (EPP) re-certification from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). Upon review of the data,
ANTRON® carpet fibre achieved EPP certification after SCS concluded that ANTRON® carpet fibre meets
or exceeds the stringent EPP requirements in all five areas of evaluation: product manufacturing,
resource conservation, human health impacts, end-of-life responsibility and product performance.
“INVISTA is dedicated to creating real, sustainable and exceptional value for its customers and society,
which includes understanding the environmental aspects of our products and processes,” said USA based
Bobby Berrier, vice president, commercial interiors for INVISTA. “We turned to the industry experts to
provide us with an objective, credible and detailed analysis of our product’s environmental performance.
The effort has earned us EPP re-certification for ANTRON® carpet fibre, and we willuse the data to
continue to identify ways we can further conserve resources and reduce emissions.”
“This achievement is tangible demonstration of INVISTA's commitment to producing environmentally
sustainable products for customers including those in markets such as the Asia Pacific region,” said
William Yeoh, vice president INVISTA Performance Surfaces and Materials Asia Pacific based in
Singapore.
Known for its performance, sustainability and style, ANTRON® carpet fibre is engineered for exceptional
soil release, stain removal, durability and ease of maintenance. Because of its unmatched design
flexibility, ANTRON® carpet fibre can be found in over 800 commercial styles made by today's leading
