Altro launches attack on ceramic floor tiles

Altro Safety Flooring (Altro) has launched an attack on the use of ceramic floor tiles in areas where hygiene and slip resistance are vitally important. These issues are critical in hospital and aged care facilities, food retailers, food & beverage manufacturers, and in the hospitality sector.
Altro devised its Close The Gaps campaign saying that germs have ‘nowhere to hide’ when Altro products are used because there are no gaps or cracks, like in ceramic tiles. The centrepiece of the campaign is the www.nowheretohide.com.au website which features hard-hitting graphics, lots of information, as well as the Germageddon computer game for a bit of fun.
“Hygiene is arguably the single most important factor when designing one of these facilities” says Altro marketing manager, Warwick Duncan. “Ceramic tiles harbour germs, are high in maintenance and, worst of all, they chip and crack easily creating an insanitary environment.
“We are trying to educate those people in vital decision-making roles that their traditional flooring choice may not be the right one for their situation,” he continued.
