  STAIRS
  Features : Index

Ordering staircases from Slattery & Acquroff benefits you and the industry. Not only will you receive the highest level of service and a superbly finished staircase, but Slattery & Acquroff’s commitment to the stair industry benefits all. Slattery & Acquroff, working with other committed companies, from all states have founded SABAA (Staircase and Balustrade Association of Australia)

What is SABAA?

SABAA, as an organization, intends to communicate interpretations, influence legislators and inform members and builders as to the appropriate construction and design of staircases.

As the Building Code stands, it is a sound document when it comes to the rules by which stair builders must abide when manufacturing and designing staircases. Unfortunately, the precise and yet ambiguous wording of the Code combined with the ignorance of builders, building inspectors and stair builders makes the Code quite often misunderstood.

Also, we have the problem where aspects of the Code have been written in such a manner to encompass the many products that are used in a home. For example, shower bases, electrical power boards, timber trusses, etc. In this regard, aspects of the Code don’t take into account the traditional, acceptable and proven manner by which many stairs are constructed.

In the short time that SABAA has been in existence, it has become apparent that there are many areas that require interpretation and perhaps alteration to the Code to protect SABAA members from issues of compliancy. Also, many stair builders are ignorant to the fact that the Code is amended regularly and what they believe to be acceptable may now, in some cases, be illegal.

In these areas, SABAA looks to lead the industry to ensure an outcome that is satisfactory, not only for stair builders, but also for home owners and builders.
