Timber
There would not be many timbers that Slattery & Acquroff have not used in its 85 years of operation and today, we pride ourselves on being able to supply materials that other cannot. However we do encourage our clients to, where possible, avoid a list of
Asia
species that are harvested using questionable and unsustainable foresting tactics.
Our range of “standard” timbers is great. Victorian Ash, Tasmanian Oak, Blackbutt, Brushbox, Spotted Gum, Sydney Blue Gum, Jarrah, Grey Ironbark, Red Ironbark are regularly used in our staircases. Finding the more exotic Australian hardwood in staircase sizes can be a challenge and often the parallel gluing of treads, strings and handrail is required.
Shortages in exotic Australian hardwood and a changing community’s attitudes has seen Slattery & Acquroff become a leader in the use of recycled timbers and glue laminated products.
