  INVISTA ANTRON® CARPET FIBRE
  Ecology : Summary

Our Commitment - Making a Difference

Does it matter that its impact on the environment is 30% less than typical of the fiber manufacturing industry? Or, that it's certified by an independent third party as an Environmentally Preferable Product?

We certainly think so.

With the announcement of a brand new name in 2003, 2004 has proven to be an exciting year for INVISTA. Yet this excitement has not overshadowed our steadfast commitment to continue reducing our environmental impact. We remain committed to growing as a sustainable company. It is this commitment that drives so many of our new initiatives. Initiatives such as the study of wind velocity to determine the environmental value of a wind farm on our manufacturing sites.

The yardstick by which we measure ourselves
We take our social and environmental commitment very seriously. It is this commitment that drives so many of our new initiatives. For over 10 years now, we have been documenting our impact on the environment. We have researched data to understand our industry impact and set benchmarks for improvement. This analysis is now known as the Total Environmental Impact (TEI) index.

The value of third-party certification
Knowing how important it is for our customers to understand the truth behind our published claims, we sought a recognized third party organization to verify our statements. We provided them with an incredible amount of data, including the TEI index and product performance data, and welcomed them into our plants and reclamation facility. The result was certification as Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) for all Antron® BCF carpet fiber manufactured in North America. In addition to receiving EPP Certification, INVISTA has been awarded third party certification on a variety of other environmental statements.

Sustainability isn't a destination...
...its a journey. While we have made significant improvements over the past decade, we understand that there is a long road ahead. We have made a series of small, but important steps that strive to reduce our footprint on the environment. It goes beyond recyclability, or recycled content. For in the end, the total environmental impact - incorporating key life-cycle evaluations - is the most comprehensive measure of a company's progress toward sustainability. Won't you join us on the important journey? We invite you to learn more and share your ideas for improvement. In addition to receiving Environemtally Preferable Product (EPP) certification on all Antron Lumena® BCF and Antron Legacy® BCF fibres, Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) awarded INVISTA with the following single attribute claims:
  • Select Antron Lumena® and Antron Legacy® BCF fibres are certified 90% post-industrial recycled content
  • Antron Lumena® BCF denier 1245, Type C is certified 5% post-industrial recycled content
