On July 13, 2001, China’s capital Beijing was awarded the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games. The upcoming Games are being heralded as the ‘Green Olympics’, ‘Hi-Tech Olympics’ and the ‘People’s Olympic Games’.

These three concepts encapsulate the spirit of the Games and organisers are determined that every venue erected will be both technologically advanced and environmentally friendly. With the eyes of the world on Beijing next year, this initiative ensures that the detrimental effects of stadium ‘wastage’ on the environment are minimised.

Dynalite was selected as the lighting control system of choice in eight newly-built Olympic venues. This was due not only to the unparalleled reliability and functionality of the product, but also to a proven track record in stadia and Olympic venue applications.

The Dynalite Solution

All Olympic venues being controlled by Dynalite employ switching technology only - simple on/off control of lighting, to provide maximum energy savings. A mix of DDRC410FR, DDRC620FR, DDRC820FR and DDRC1210FR Relay Controllers are employed across all eight venues. The robust ‘FR’ series of relay controllers are designed to control any type of switched load and the power circuit is of a "feed through" design. This power circuit design is electrically equivalent to a 4,6, 8 or 12-pole contactor, with the additional advantage of each pole being separately controllable via the DyNet network. All of the selected relay controllers are DIN rail mountable and designed to be installed into a switchboard, next to the circuit breakers feeding the circuits to be controlled.

Additionally, the larger venues; Shenyang Olympic Sport Centre Stadium and Tianjin Olympic Centre, employ a mix of Dynalite network gateways and interfaces, to facilitate integration to third party equipment, such as Audio Visual and building management systems.

A range of robust DLP configurable panels complete the product offering, providing simple user control system operation from convenient locations.

Client Benefit

Dynalite was the obvious choice for the Beijing 2008 Olympics with a proven track record at numerous Sydney Olympic sites.

The product benefits are numerous; use of DIN rail mountable controllers occupy a smaller footprint, thereby reduces amount of space required for installation. Additionally, Dynalite’s range of DIN-rail mounted relay controllers incorporate the amazingly robust H-armature relays, which provide superior reliability and life. Despite the fact that China contains a large number of local, relatively inexpensive relay manufacturers, Dynalite has been chosen for these important projects due the reliability and functionality of the product and its superior reputation worldwide.
