Dalsouple's magnetic rubber flooring is an attraction for access flooring
Tuesday 11th September 2007

DalMagnetic in Sigma 5 relief.
DalMagnetic is an innovation which transforms the design possibilities for buildings with access flooring. Dalsouple have been granted a patent for this magnetic rubber flooring. Most new buildings and now have under floor cabling with metallic panelling laid on top to enable easy access for repairs. The use of DalMagnetic can considerably reduce onsite labour, and cut maintenance costs. The tiles come in 610mm x 610mm, or 680mm x 680mm and are available in a range of textures including DalUni smooth.

Dalsouple rubber is bonded to a flexible magnetised material to create an integral magnetic tile. These tiles are then loose laid on the metallic access floor panels. A stable walking surface is created with the strong magnetism with no slippage or movement between tiles. When there is a requirement to access the sub floor, the tiles can be lifted up and replaced time and again.

The use of DalMagnetic is being considered for the new SA water head office in Adelaide, South Australia. As the building is going for a 6–star Green rating, the architects at Hassell want to use a sustainable flooring but still have easy access to the wiring and cabling underneath the floor. Hassell have designed an amazing unique artwork pattern incorporating DalMagnetic in 12 different colours on 6 different levels. The intricate pattern would normally be a headache for the flooring installers if they were to use adhesive, but with just cutting the tiles using a water jet cutter they only have to lay them according to the pattern. Dalsouple Australasia stands by their stewardship agreement in that at the end of the floor’s life (well past the 10 year guarantte), it will take back all used rubber and recycle it. With new developments in recycling of magnetic materials (eg. In Japan they recycle magnetic transport tickets), the magnetic backing of the DalMagnetic rubber tile will be able to be recycled in the future too.

The upper surface of the Dalsouple Magnetic tile has all the benefits of a standard Dalsouple floor: it is hygienic, soft, warm, noise and impact absorbing, anti slip, anti static and cigarette burn resistant. Combined with the fantastic colour choice, it makes an ideal floor for a contemporary office environment. You could even change the colour of your fridge!
