CSR's Cemintel Residential ExpressWall™ Facade System Provides the Ultimate Design Freedom
Due to the costly nature of buying a new home, more Australian homeowners are opting for alterations and additions rather than moving house. This means builders are looking for 'smart' systems that can be seamlessly incorporated into existing structures while still providing environmental benefits Leading building companies such as CSR are meeting the demand with 'smart' systems such as Cemintel Residential ExpressWallExpressWall™, which provide a durable and versatile alterations and additions solution.
When Dixon Andrews, an architect from Mosman on Sydney's North Shore, needed to add to his four-room heritage farmhouse to accommodate his growing family, he chose to make a 'smart' addition to his home. Concerned about creating a modern look that complimented the existing structure, Andrews chose Cemintel's Residential ExpressWall™. The result was a 'smart' home which incorporated environmentallyfriendly design elements and weather-resistant products that will stand the test of time.
When Dixon Andrews, an architect from Mosman on Sydney's North Shore, set about designing major alterations and additions to his home he wanted to use a "smarter" building material than traditional cavity brickwork. He was looking for a building system that gave a solid but contemporary look, would be low maintenance and would provide good insulation properties.
Dixon Andrews comments "Rendered cavity brickwork has poor insulation properties and has a tendency to relatively quickly develop unattractive cosmetic cracks that detract from the appearance of the finished house."
"As an architect, I was already aware that Cemintel Residential ExpressWall™ was a high-quality façade system solution. Apart from the fact that I simply like the look of the finished walls, Cemintel Residential ExpressWall™ can withstand extreme weather conditions so I don't have to worry about cracks appearing over time and decreasing insulation benefits inside the home," explains Andrews. "The Cemintel Residential ExpressWall™ system allowed me to incorporate good insulation in the external walls. This combined with the thermal mass provided by the tiled concrete floors means my entire home will stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter reducing the overall energy used in the dwelling making it more environmentally friendly".
Other smart features of the altered house include: large rainwater tanks for toilets and irrigation; an intelligent light control system; windows designed to increase natural cross ventilation; biometric fingerprint readers to provide access; an energy efficient domestic variable volume air-conditioning system (used primarily for heating).
Mike Fraser, General Manager of Cemintel™ Fibre Cement Systems, remarks "The Cemintel Residential ExpressWall™ system allows discerning architects, builders and home owners to build innovative and flexible additions that complement their existing building."
"I am very happy with the finished product. Not only do I have a very beautiful home, I have a reliable system to protect my home from natural weathering for years to come" remarks Andrews. "And it's a smart way for any homeowner doing alternations and additions to add value, update the look of their home and save money on bills." The purpose-built components of Cemintel Residential ExpressWall™ combine to provide a light-weight façade system that is flexible and easy to install.
