The Boral Plasterboard D-Stud System is a steel wall framing system that is particularly suited to acoustically sensitive applications, providing enhanced acoustic performance in staggered stud party walls. It is designed to provide additional stability to non-load bearing walls up to 13.4 metres in height.
The D-Stud Wall System overcomes many of the torsion and rigidity problems of C Studs and can be applied to single-sided systems without the need for nogging or bridging between the studs. The system has been successfully installed at Highpoint Cinemas, Melbourne.
The D-Stud Wall System is the subject of patent and registered design applications and should only be used with Boral Plasterboard unless express written permission is given by Boral Australian Gypsum Limited.
High Wall Applications - Shopping Centre Complex
Built as a separating wall between the Interactive entertainment area and the cinemas, the D-Stud wall will provide excellent acoustic isolation from the transmission of noise from one area to another.
- The D-Stud High Wall System enables the construction of very high cinema walls with superior acoustic performance to accommodate the latest in cinema screen design and sound technology.
- Retail tenancies with specific noise control requirements, for example a music/video store, will benefit from a DStud inter-tenancy wall.
- D-Stud partition walls in the supermarket will separate storage and cool rooms from the remainder of the store, minimising noise from freezers or packing machinery.
- An open foyer or atrium feature at the entrance to the shopping centre is easily obtained using the D-Stud High Wall System.
Low Rise Applications - Multi-Residential Development
D-Stud is especially suited to non-load bearing inter-tenancy walls. With its excellent impact noise isolation performance, the D-Stud wall will keep adjacent apartments and habitable rooms quiet while keeping the wall width to a minimum.
- Used as a party wall, D-Stud will minimise noise from the living room penetrating the bedrooms and meet the required fire rating for multi-residential construction.
- Use of the D-Stud in the services shaft will not only enable increased wall height and meet the fire-rating requirement, but also minimise the transmission of noise from the shaft to tenancies.
- Application of the D-Stud in the stairwell will enable greater wall heights to be reached, meet the required fire rating and minimise any impact noise transferred from the stairwell to tenancy bedrooms or other habitable areas.
- In hotels, use of the D-Stud Wall System will reduce sound transmission in areas such as walls dividing corridors and tenancies, plant rooms and storage rooms. (Staff may be moving equipment in and out and disturbing guestrooms and conference areas.)
- D-Stud simplifies building conversions involving high interior walls such as old warehouses; spanning greater heights while providing the necessary fire resistance rating and superior acoustic performance.
