  ZINCALUME® STEEL FOR WALLING
  Ecology : Index

BlueScope is committed to a policy of waste minimisation and management.

Wherever possible, BlueScope seeks to:
  • reduce the generation of waste materials at their sources;
  • reuse waste materials onsite;
  • recycle waste materials offsite; and
  • minimise the storage or disposal of these materials either on or off site, pending the further development of processes to increase their practical reuse.
On a much broader plane, it is BlueScope’s policy to:
  • comply with all applicable laws;
  • communicate openly with governments and the communities in which it operates;
  • ensure its employees and suppliers are aware of their environmental responsibilities; and
  • monitor and manage environmental risks.
Much work has already been done by BlueScope to establish programs to conserve resources, minimise waste, improve processes and protect the environment.

Examples include the development of a Life Cycle Analysis model to better understand the environmental impact of steel products and processes; the modernisation of plant and equipment to reduce waste streams, minimise energy consumption, and recycle by-products back into the steelmaking process; the greening of steel sites; the management of flora and fauna; and the creation of important and growing steel by-product industries, such as the market for slag.

This work - and the commitment that goes with it - is on-going. BlueScope is continually reviewing its operations and making itself accountable for its performance - not only to its stakeholders, but its customers and the community at large.
