Spanning Tables

Maximum wall support spacings

The table shows the maximum recommended wall support spacings for strength, based on external applications and using 6 fasteners per sheet per support. They are recommended for buildings up to 10m high in Region B, Terrain Category 3 conditions (Vs= 38 m/s and Vu= 60 m/s), using Cpe= 0.65, Cpi= 0.2 and Kl = 2.0.

These spacings may be reduced by the serviceability and strength limit states for the particular project under consideration.

Maximum recommended support spacings for walls (mm)
Type of Span Thickness (mm) BMT
  0.42 0.48
Single Span 1200 1500
End Span 1500 1500
Internal Span 1500 1500
Overhang 100 125
Support must not be less than 1 mm BMT
Spacing is based on 6 fasteners per support

For internal ceiling applications the maximum recommended support spacing is 1200 mm, for end and internal spans.

For best aesthetic results, support spacings should be limited to 900 mm maximum.

Capacity & Load Tables
The wind pressure capacity table is determined by full scale tests conducted at BlueScope's NATA registered testing laboratory using the direct pressure-testing rig.

Testing was conducted in accordance with AS 1562.1 - 1992, Design and installation of sheet roof and wall cladding-Metal and AS 4040.2 - 1992, Resistance to wind pressures for non-cyclone regions.

The pressure capacities for serviceability are based on a deflection limit of: (span/120) + (maximum fastener pitch/30).

The pressure capacities for strength have been determined by testing the cladding to failure (ultimate capacity). These pressures are applicable when the cladding is fixed to a minimum of 1.0 mm material (G550).

NOTE:
LYSAGHT MINI ORB® is only suitable for use in non-cyclonic areas, that is areas where a tropical cyclone is unlikely to occur, in accordance with AS 1170.2 - 1989, Wind loads (SAA loading code, Part 2).

Formability
Curving information
MINI ORB®  is suitable for pre-curving in 0.42 and 0.48 mm material.  For pre-curving the minimum radius  of curve is 150 mm, and the minimum straight length after a curve is 50 mm.  Some of the possible profiles are shown on the left.

For spring curving the minimum radius for 0.42 mm BMT is 1600 mm, and for 0.48 mm BMT is 2000 mm. The support spacing for spring curving is 900 mm maximum.
