Warnings
  • There is at least 100mm at the ends of the curve which cannot be curved. This must be taken into account when measuring
  • Minimum recommended roof pitch is 5 degrees
  • Lead and copper are not compatible with ZINCALUME® steel or COLORBOND® steel
  • Ensure selection of suitable materials for environmental conditions for maximum durability

Installation

Fastening sheets to supports
CUSTOM ORB® should be installed using screws of the types and sizes shown in the table below.

You can place screws for CUSTOM ORB® through the crests or in the valleys. Roof screws should be placed through crests to maximise watertightness. For walling, you may use either crest- or valley-fixing.

Screws should be driven perpendicular to the sheeting, and in the centre of the corrugation or rib.

Fasteners should not be placed less than 25 mm from the ends of sheets.

Laying Procedure
  • When lapping sheets of curved BlueScope CUSTOM BLUE ORB® with straight lengths of CUSTOM ORB®, it is essential that each run of curved and straight sheets are end lapped progressively across the width of the roof so they can be kept in alignment. For best results, sheets should be laid in the order illustrated below.
  • A carpenter's level should be used to lay the first sheet.
  • Always measure every 3rd or 4th sheet to check squareness.
  • A rope with a hook at one end may be used on the overlap side of the sheet to obtain a good lap.
Note: The first purlin is to be measured from the centre of a bullnose as in the diagram.

Saw-toothing
Saw-toothing occurs when curved steel sheets are laid (or stepped) over each other, as shown above.

This is a natural occurrence and cannot be avoided. It is therefore essential to ensure that the saw-tooth at each end of the sheet are of equal measurement so that the roof being fixed is running square.
